This list details the steps that you can follow to join NARCOA and to be ready to operate your rail vehicle on excursions sponsored by NARCOA affiliates.
1. Join NARCOA
- Click on "Join/Renew" in the black banner below the Home button.
- Choose to join by postal mail or by credit card online.
2. Once you have Joined:

Your subscription to the NARCOA magazine, The SETOFF, will start with the next issue. The Setoff is published 6 times per year. Thus you may wait up to 2 months before your first issue of The Setoff arrives.

Your name and address will be added to the NARCOA member roster unless you choose not to participate. This roster is available in the Members Only section of the NARCOA Electronic Database (NED). The roster aids members in maintaining contact with friends met on NARCOA excursions.
3. Obtain NARCOA Operator Qualification

To operate your car on a NARCOA excursion you must pass an online operator qualification test

To ensure operators are familiar with the NARCOA Rule Book contents, the NARCOA Judicial Policy, and the NARCOA Operations Manual, each operator must pass an open book online test.
- These documents will be available on the NARCOA Electronic Database once you join.

To operate your car on an excursion sponsored by a NARCOA affiliate, you must have a current operator qualification and NARCOA liability insurance (see above).

Read the rulebook. Your vehicle must meet the standards that are detailed in the rulebook. Until it does, you will not be allowed to operate it on a NARCOA-sponsored excursion.

If you have questions, ask them on one of the online forums such as the NARCOA Forum. Also, contact your NARCOA Area Director, whose name is listed in the Setoff and on the website, or contact an officer of your local NARCOA Affiliate.

If you have never operated rail vehicles before, you need practice and mentoring before your first excursion. Many NARCOA affiliates offer some form of mentoring. Contact an officer of your local NARCOA Affiliate.

You will find excursions listed in The Setoff and on the NARCOA website. IAll excursions sponsored by NARCOA affiliates are open to all members. There are no closed or private NARCOA sponsored excursions.
